Meet BUTS member Trey Clark, co-founder of Zombie Trail Races

Trey Clark at the High Lonesome 100 in the Sawatch Range in Salina, Colo.

BUTS member Trey Clark is the cofounder of Zombie Trail Races, established  in 2021. He and cousin Nick Doss “started having trail races that were somewhat out of the box to attract new faces to the best trail scene in the world,” Clark says. “Almost all of our races have had 50 percent of runners with no prior Ultrasignup results.” Trey is also on the coaching staff of the Alabama Class 7A state champion Thompson High School football team. (He’s got a busy 2023 as a race director, including the Dec. 31-Jan. 1 Run Undead Ultra Party at Oak Mountain State Park. See Trey’s results on Ultrasignup).

What is your favorite distance? Definitely 100 miles. I Started trail running in 2013 to get in shape after finishing college football career.

Biggest mistake new trail runners make? Not strengthening feet, ankles, hip girdle, and trunk before taking on longer distances

Favorite aid station food? Macaroni and cheese/cheeseburger slider.

Best place I’ve run? The Crazy Mountains in Montana.

Something people don’t know about me? I’m a huge animal lover (especially rescue pit bulls).

Biggest mistake on UltraSignup? Signing up for Quest for the Crest 50K and Thunder Rock 100 less than a week apart. (Sunday 50K and Friday 100).
